André-Pierre Gignac joined Olympique Marseille in August 2010 on a five-year contract, moving from Toulouse to the defending champions. On 20 August 2010, Marseille club president Jean-Claude Dassier confirmed the club had reached a tentative agreement with Toulouse for the transfer of Gignac. Gignac underwent a medical the following day and signed a five-year contract. He was assigned the number 10 shirt and made his club debut nine days after signing in a league match against Bordeaux. Two months later, he scored his first goal for the club in a 1–1 draw with Saint-Étienne. On 3 November, Gignac scored a hat-trick in the 7–0 away win against Slovak club MŠK Žilina in a UEFA Champions League group stage match. After his contract expired, he moved to Mexico to play for Tigres UANL.
